Together Talks
Your local NHS, Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) and Bradford Metropolitan District Council (BMDC) have come together during these challenging times to ensure that all 534,300 approx. (June 2017) people of Bradford District feel supported and cared for
We know that the coronavirus pandemic is having a profound effect on the physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing of people within our communities, and more of us than ever are feeling lonely and isolated. In response to this, the multi-agency Together Talks telephone befriending initiative has been developed. This service is designed to promote health and wellbeing, and alleviate loneliness and isolation, by giving everyone within Bradford District the opportunity to make new connections through regular conversation. We aim to make you feel better and happier, and know that you are not alone.
By registering with Together Talks, we will match you with a Volunteer Telephone Befriender who will contact you to have a friendly conversation over the phone. While this is not a professional counselling or therapy service, your Telephone Befriender will have a friendly, listening ear, and help signpost you to information, resources and services that matter to you.
Our People, just like you, are missing regular contact with other people and want to feel more connected to their community. You will be able to talk about the day you are having and the things that you like to do (hobbies, interests etc.). There are huge health and wellbeing benefits to be had just through the simple act of conversation with another person.
Where possible, we aim match you to a Telephone Befriender who has availability on a day/time that suits your needs. We will also strive to connect you with someone who you can converse with in you preferred language. The Telephone Befriender’s call will register on your phone as, 'No Caller ID', ‘Private Number’ or 'Number Withheld'. The Telephone Befriender will not be able to give direct advice but will have access to a wealth of resource information that you can be signposted to. You can arrange future calls, and their frequency, on your initial call with the Telephone Befriender.
If you would like to be matched with a Volunteer Telephone Befriender, you will need to register your details via a simple form which can be found by clicking this link. Together Talks will store your information securely and all personal details will not be shared with any third party unless you give your consent. For more information, please see our privacy notice.
